Coming Soon: NACA Cohorts

Great ideas often emerge through group conversations and members sharing their needs with the Association. During the recent NACA Live, attendees expressed an interest in expanding the functional area roundtables and affinity chats into year-round spaces for professional staff to exchange ideas, network, and engage in shared learning. To meet this need, we are excited to announce a new opportunity coming in May - NACA Cohorts - designed for professional staff members to learn more and build community with peers working within specific functional areas throughout the year.

Beginning May 1, we will introduce four functional area Cohorts:

  • Programming Board Cohort
  • Student Government Cohort
  • Student Organizations Cohort
  • Fraternity & Sorority Life Cohort

About the Cohorts

Cohorts will serve as spaces for professional staff members who advise and support that functional area (or staff who are interested in learning more or networking with peers doing that work on a daily basis).

  • Each Cohort will host a monthly, virtual "Meetup" that will serve as both a chance for learning and professional development, as well as time for community building and ongoing support.
  • A corresponding NACA Connect group will be set up for each Cohort to provide opportunities for ongoing dialogue, discussion, and idea exchange.
  • Future NACA conferences will also include opportunities for Cohort members to meetup in-person to continue to network and dialogue.

We recognize that many of you oversee multiple areas, so our goal is to keep the Cohort gatherings informal and flexible—allowing you to participate without adding additional stress to your schedule. You can feel free jump into one or more of the Cohorts that meet your needs. More than anything, we want to provide a space for you to collaborate, problem-solve, and get peer support and encouragement.

Seeking Cohort Facilitators

Each Cohort will be led by two campus-based professionals, the Cohort Facilitators, who will help organize monthly Meetups, invite guest speakers, identify key topics of interest, and moderate the Connect group. If you would be interested in helping launch this new initiative, you can apply to volunteer as one of the four Cohort Facilitators. You can review the volunteer position description, experience requirements, expectations, and application here. For those interested in applying, applications are due by Friday, April 11.
